Qatar and Iraq have taken a significant step towards bolstering their economic relationship with the formation of a joint business council aimed at enhancing trade and investment ties. The Qatar-Iraq Joint Business Council was established following discussions hosted by Qatar Chamber, where an Iraqi business delegation led by Amer Khalaf Alawi, President of the Federation of Iraqi Chambers of Commerce, met with Qatari counterparts.
The meeting highlighted around 60 potential investment opportunities associated with Iraq’s Development Road project, collectively valued at approximately $250 billion. These opportunities span various sectors including transport and logistics, manufacturing, energy and utilities, mining, oil and gas, agriculture, information technology, real estate, and tourism.
A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between Qatar Chamber and the Federation of Iraqi Chambers of Commerce to formalize the creation of the joint council. The council’s mandate is to promote communication between businesses and entrepreneurs in both countries, facilitate joint investment projects, and boost cooperation among small and medium-sized enterprises.
Both sides have expressed optimism about the potential for increased private-sector partnerships and trade between Qatar and Iraq. Businesses from both nations are encouraged to explore and capitalize on the investment opportunities across a wide range of sectors.
