Qatar has pledged to bolster Lebanon’s sovereignty and economic recovery through enhanced collaboration in energy and infrastructure projects, as announced by Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani. During discussions with Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, Qatar committed to a range of support measures aimed at stabilizing Lebanon’s precarious situation.

The talks, which emphasized the strengthening of bilateral relations and commitment to regional stability, resulted in Qatar reaffirming its assistance across key sectors such as energy, education, healthcare, and economic development. Notably, an agreement was reached for QatarEnergy to partner with France’s TotalEnergies to develop a solar power plant, marking a significant step in energy collaboration between the two nations.

In addition to energy initiatives, Qatar and Lebanon are progressing towards a joint project to modernize Lebanon’s electricity infrastructure. This endeavor, structured as a build-operate-transfer model, is designed to advance without requiring initial financial input from the Lebanese government, as highlighted by Prime Minister Salam.

Amid these advancements, Qatar expressed deep concern over rising hostilities in Lebanon, condemning Israeli actions against peacekeeping forces and violations of Lebanese territory. Sheikh Mohammed called for the full implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701, an end to hostilities, and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from occupied Lebanese territories.

Lebanon’s Prime Minister Salam expressed gratitude for Qatar’s ongoing political, economic, and humanitarian aid, noting its crucial role in reconstruction efforts and the fortification of Lebanese state institutions. He emphasized that cooperation in sectors like energy and investment is vital for strengthening the economy and supporting the return of displaced Lebanese citizens to their communities.

Qatar’s commitment to Lebanon also involves working with international partners to ensure the country’s security, stability, and long-term recovery, a move that reflects Doha’s strategic interest in contributing to regional peace and development.
