Qatar is urging the international community to intensify cooperation to advance sustainable development and address the challenges outlined in the United Nations 2030 Agenda. Speaking at a high-level meeting on the Global Development Initiative in New York, Qatar’s Minister of State for International Cooperation, Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser Al Misnad, emphasized the need for global efforts to tackle financing and debt pressures, food insecurity, climate change, energy insecurity, and the digital divide faced by developing countries.
The minister stressed that sustainable and inclusive development is crucial for achieving long-term peace, stability, and prosperity. She called on the international community to close the development financing gap and increase resources for developing nations, with a particular focus on the least developed countries.
Qatar highlighted the importance of stronger commitments to development finance, climate action, and reforms in the international financial system to better support these countries in reaching their Sustainable Development Goals. The potential role of artificial intelligence and digital technologies in supporting sustainable development was also noted, along with a warning that unequal access to these technologies could exacerbate existing disparities.
Al Misnad urged greater cooperation in technology transfer, scientific research, innovation, and the development of digital skills to prevent such inequalities. She reaffirmed Qatar’s dedication to sustainable development through initiatives under its National Vision 2030 and various international partnerships.
Qatar’s efforts include supporting poverty reduction, education, food security, healthcare, and resilience-building in vulnerable countries. The call for enhanced global cooperation aims to ensure that developing nations can overcome existing challenges and build a sustainable future.
