Qatar has reinforced its commitment to a two-state solution as the foundation for enduring peace in the Middle East. Speaking at the Global Alliance for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution meeting during the UN General Assembly in New York, Qatar’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al Khulaifi, emphasized the necessity of adhering to international law and relevant UN resolutions.
Al Khulaifi highlighted the importance of establishing an independent Palestinian state based on the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, coexisting peacefully with Israel. He urged nations that have not yet recognized Palestine to do so, underscoring the gravity of international support for the initiative.
The Qatari minister warned that ongoing settlement expansion, land seizures, and settler violence, along with actions affecting religious sites in the West Bank, are jeopardizing the prospects for a two-state solution. He further noted that the conflict in Gaza and the resulting humanitarian crisis pose significant threats to regional stability and the efforts toward a political settlement.
Qatar is actively engaged in diplomatic efforts, collaborating with Egypt, the United States, and Türkiye, to promote ceasefire agreements and peace initiatives. The country has also reaffirmed its commitment to humanitarian aid for Palestinians and to international endeavors aimed at improving conditions in Gaza and advancing a sustainable political resolution.
