Audrey Werro delivered an impressive performance at the Ultimate Championships in Budapest, securing the $150,000 prize by winning the women’s 800m race. The 22-year-old Swiss athlete clocked a time of 1:55.88, outpacing Britain’s Olympic champion Keely Hodgkinson, who finished in 1:56.26. Femke Broeders-Bol claimed the third spot. Werro’s triumph was marked by her strategic control of the race from the outset, maintaining her lead and accelerating in the final 300 meters. This victory marks the culmination of a remarkable season for Werro, having won 14 of her 15 outdoor races, solidifying her status as a top contender in the 800m category.
Hodgkinson expressed pride in her performance, especially considering her recent battle with injuries, including a hamstring issue that had hindered her speed training. Despite these challenges, she managed to claim the second position, highlighting her resilience and skill.
In the women’s 1500m event, Georgia Hunter Bell put on a commendable performance to finish second behind Poland’s Klaudia Kazimierska. Kazimierska won with a time of 3:57.55, narrowly edging out Hunter Bell by just 0.15 seconds. Hunter Bell’s strong finish earned her $75,000, capping off a successful season that included significant victories in major championships.
The women’s 100m race also saw an outstanding achievement as Melissa Jefferson-Wooden, the world champion, crossed the finish line in 10.62 seconds, the fastest time recorded globally this year. Olympic champion Julien Alfred followed in 10.74 seconds, while Sha’Carri Richardson secured third place with a time of 10.76 seconds. These performances underscore the high level of competition and remarkable athletic achievements witnessed at the championships.
