Central Asia’s Strategic Pivot: Leaders to Meet Trump in Washington

by admin477351

The leaders of Central Asia are executing a strategic pivot, with a high-profile meeting with US President Donald Trump scheduled for November 6 in Washington.

This summit, confirmed by the presidents of Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, is the latest in a series of high-level diplomatic engagements. The C5 have also recently met with leaders from China, Russia, and the EU.

This flurry of activity is a sign of the region’s rising importance. Spanning a vast, resource-rich area, the five nations are being courted by all major powers.

Russia’s influence has been challenged by the Ukraine conflict, creating an opening that the Trump administration, as well as Beijing and Brussels, is seeking to exploit.

The C5 leaders are using this moment to pursue their own agenda: attracting investment and re-establishing their region as a central hub for global trade.
