Christopher McQuarrie, longtime collaborator of Tom Cruise, has confirmed that the plot for Top Gun 3 is essentially complete. The director says the story came together during a single brainstorming session and is built around strong emotional themes.
Though he has yet to decide on directing the film, McQuarrie has been researching how to replicate Tony Scott’s unique style to maintain visual continuity. He believes that conveying emotional stakes is more crucial than the scope of action.
He also confirmed ongoing talks around a Les Grossman spinoff, adding that the character remains a source of hilarity and creative intrigue. The project is still alive and being actively developed.
