During the 31st Assembly of the International Seabed Authority (ISA) in Kingston, Jamaica, Qatar reiterated its support for the ISA and the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS). Qatar’s commitment was conveyed by Omar Ali Al Ali, the Secretary of the Standing Committee of the Convention on the Law of the Sea, who represented the nation at the gathering.

Al Ali highlighted the importance of maintaining a delicate balance between the responsible utilization of marine resources and the protection of the marine environment. He underscored the necessity for enhanced dialogue and transparency among member states, which he believes are crucial for effective decision-making within the ISA.

Qatar called for credible scientific research and comprehensive environmental assessments to inform the Authority’s actions. This approach, according to Al Ali, would ensure that decisions are rooted in sound scientific understanding and are beneficial for the global community.

Al Ali also stressed Qatar’s commitment to collaborating with all ISA member states to fulfill the Authority’s mission of managing international seabed resources. The nation is dedicated to ensuring that these resources are governed in accordance with international law and used for the benefit of all humanity.

Through its engagement in ISA activities, Qatar aims to contribute to global efforts in safeguarding marine ecosystems while supporting sustainable resource management initiatives that align with international frameworks such as UNCLOS.
